About Me

Welcome!

Kim Koehler
Artist, Illustrator, & Surface Pattern Designer

You can find me outside. I’m usually collecting leaves, watching a snail crawl, and snapping photos of birds. Catch it while you can because tomorrow it might be gone. I chase that magic every day. And I hope to bring a piece of it to you in my art.

Influenced by vintage botanical illustrations, wood block prints, folk art, and ephemera, I infuse my work with the textures and spirit of the past. I love rich, vibrant color, and often pair it with quiet phrases—to create an emotional connection through both color and word. I look for the magic in nature—the way a curled leaf catches the light, the quiet geometry of a seed pod, or the fleeting color of a bloom just past its prime. My work is rooted in this sense of wonder and observation, blending the handmade with the digital to create art that feels both nostalgic and modern. I capture small, often overlooked moments.

With over two decades of experience as a graphic artist and creative director—including years designing for the movie and television industry—I’ve always loved visual storytelling. But it wasn’t until a three years ago that I fell deeply in love with illustration and surface pattern design. Now, I sketch daily, explore old techniques in new ways, and try to create work that brings beauty, feeling, and a bit of wonder into everyday spaces.

You will find my work licensed on journals, cards, and calendars. I’ve infused my art into book covers, national campaigns, props in movies, and skincare lines. Each project is an opportunity to bring a bit of wonder into the world—whether it’s tucked inside the pages of a planner or part of a larger visual story. I strive to create art that feels heartfelt, intentional, and alive with bold color and beautiful details.
